Cedar Primary School, Smiling Confidence

Cedar Primary School

Our team of senior mentors were lucky enough to spend 3 days with the enthusiastic students of Cedar Primary School, leaving a lifelong impact.

The P4 students were engaged in the Sports Challenge program through a variety of experiential learning activities and discussions aimed towards boosting self-confidence and identifying potential leaders.  The program also focused on important skills such as goal setting as well as understanding and living by the school values.

Students were exposed to team building exercises such as The Great Egg Drop where they had to work together and use a high level of communication and team work to conquer the task.  It was fantastic to see quiet students stepping up and beginning to develop the self-confidence to voice their ideas in a group setting.

On our return to Singapore in a few weeks, the Sports Challenge team will revisit the students of Cedar Primary School to follow up on their goals and help students reset new goals or offer ideas to help them achieve their current goals.  We believe it is important for students to be accountable to the goals they set and to offer life-long learning experiences not one off sessions that are never followed up or expanded on.

The mentors left Cedar Primary School students with big smiles on their faces and a set of skills that will see their self-confidence continue to grow.  This was evident as the mentors were showered with gifts and cards by the students thanking them for the impact that they had made, which demonstrates just how valuable our programs are.

The change in the students was positive and noted by both parents and the staff of the school.  This truly is what the Sports Challenge Program is all about, working with kids to help build their self-confidence and encourage them to find that self-belief to see anything is possible.

We are looking forward to returning to Cedar PS to see how the students are progressing.  It was a fun and very rewarding program for all those involved as the students took a giant leap towards maximising their potential.
