What a difference three months of intensive educational gymnastics training has made to Cedar Sec 1 students. Led by HOD Physical Education (PE) Agnes Leong and her capable staff, Sports Challenge has been involved in base line testing in PE called the Physical Quotient (PQ) with Sec 1 students in 2005 and 2006.
The data, hierarchically ranked, compared each student to norms established both in Australia and Singapore, with individual report cards available. As Agnes explains: “The electronic data and reports prepared by Sports Challenge have been invaluable. It has allowed our PE programs to target areas of need and carefully design all our programs.” The results have been outstanding with improvements of 100 to 140% not uncommon.
What that means for Cedar Sec is the girls at the beginning of their high school career have now developed fundamental movement skills, which will lead to higher participation rates in sport and further data to identify high performance students who have the potential to move onto elite sport.
All this from getting the humble forward roll to gain hold in a positive way for both students and teachers.
