The Perfect Bakers Dozen

The excitement and anticipation of Kem Mayberry and Robyn Reeves from the Jack Brockhoff Foundation were etched all over the children’s faces from Bayles Regional Primary School. With the enthusiasm of Principal Sue Goodall, SC Manager Camilla Milburn and the support of The Jack Brockhoff Foundation a fantastic program was able to be delivered to this school in South East Victoria.
The rolling farming fields of Bayles have changed dramatically in the past few years, due to the urban spread of Melbourne now knocking at their door. This has resulted in the changing social dynamics of the community with the greatest impact on the children. To this end Sports Challenge, who had worked closely with the school over many years, was again called upon to deliver the important life skills of resilience to deal with the changing demographics of the area. Sports Challenge also delivered workshops to the teachers allowing new learning in the areas of life/work balance and improving their emotional intelligence.
So the question was, what could Bayles give their two guests from the Brockhoff Foundation to thank them for their valued support and to show how important the rural communities are to the fabric of Victoria? The answer was simple … a dozen of the best free range eggs from the community for each guest! As one of the year 6 students explains: “We have learnt about the Baker’s dozen being the perfect 13 and we have been so lucky to have the Sports Challenge Program that we decided all you needed to make a special gift from the heart was a dozen of our best farm fresh eggs along with Sports Challenge.”
