Victoria off and running

The students of Somerville Primary School are off and running with the launch of the “think FIT with Sports Challenge” Program.  Under the leadership of Sue Goodall (Principal), Somerville PS will embark on the “think FIT and Sports Challenge” inaugural program in August 2007.   The students from years 4 to 6 have completed their Pre Test and are currently undergoing selection for the program.
Sports Challenge Australia has been fitness and skill testing primary aged students for the past ten years, the results fed back to the participating schools in the form of a report where all participants are heirarchically ranked from highest to lowest.  Sports Challenge will now go one step further by joining forces with the think FIT program to take the selected students through a series of fitness and skill workshops with the aim of increasing the participants pre test results by a nominated percentage.
The brainchild of Sports Challenge Manager, Camilla Milburn, think FIT aims to increase the overall health and fitness of selected students through participating in innovative, leading edge workshops.  The program, in line with Sports Challenge uses an experiential (hands on) mentoring model of delivery.
The selected students will all be presented with a uniform thanks to a past Sports Challenge mentor Janine Williams, whose family has generously donated T-Shirts, sleeveless fleecy vests and a cap for each participant. The program will be conducted over a six week period wth two 1.5hour workshops each week.  Students will be encouraged to complete additional activities outside of these set times and will be rewarded for their efforts.
As the launch date draws near we will keep you posted with the news and results of this exciting initiative!!!!!!!!!
