We are currently running our ‘world first’ Creativity and Innovation program with the year 8 girls at Iona College in Perth.
We have developed an audit that profiles students into one of the five Creativity and Innovation Profiles: Innovator, Thinker, Builder, Explorer and Connector.
From this audit, students have then been working on our ‘world first’ experiential learning activities to explore their profiles within a team environment and extend their personal creativity.
To work as an effective team the girls have learnt the importance of assigning and defining roles based upon each other’s strengths, respecting other people’s opinions and the importance of positive and clear communication.
Each year the Sports Challenge Iona program is kicked off by a team building day and this year it was no different.
All of the Sports Challenge mentors were on deck to support and encourage the 150 Iona girls in the blistering heat of the Perth summer. However, not even the heat could hold back the cheers, chants and excitement of the girls as shown by the photos.
In their house groups, the girls were provided with opportunities to explore team work, discuss leadership values and solve problems together. Whilst many girls left school at the end of the day totally exhausted they were already looking forward to the return visits, as were the mentors.
The follow up sessions have enabled Sports Challenge to get to know the students’ strengths as well as to provide further learning opportunities in goal setting, conflict resolution and team building that the girls can apply not only during the sessions, but throughout their life.
The Iona College program is a great way to start the school life for all of the Year 8 girls, as they navigate through life’s uncertain journey.
