Halls Head: A Sizzling Success

The Yr 8 and 9 programs at Mandurah’s Halls Head Community College was a great success to end the 2008 school year for Sports Challenge.

The Yr 8 and 9 programs at Mandurah’s Halls Head Community College was a great success to end the 2008 school year for Sports Challenge. This program was run at the school throughout November and December, and focused upon building self-esteem and resilience among the selected 30 students.  Using a combination of indoor and outdoor activities, the students were encouraged to solve challenges through creative problem solving, while also building social skills by working in small team settings.
Both for the students and coaches, the program was an enjoyable, fulfilling, and motivational experience.  It was agreed by Halls Head teaching staff that the most inspirational aspect of the program was watching the students interact on a positive level during the final session’s eagerly anticipated sausage sizzle.  The effects of the program were tremendously positive, which had a ripple effect to all who were involved, both in the program and behind the scenes.  Further, each student is now linked up by email to their coach through the Sports Challenge website location called “Epals.”
Well done Halls Head!
