There is no finer example of Singapore’s Ministry of Education (MOE) 21st Century Competencies Philosophy than the program completed by Sports Challenge Australia at Punggol Primary School.
Under the guidance of CEO Dr Garry Tester and mentors Phoebe Joyce, Kye Middleton and Evan Willey, some 50 P6 students were involved in a ‘world first’ experiential learning program to build real aspirations for the future of Singapore.
From realistic goal setting, conflict resolution strategies, communication skills and problem solving activities, these young students stretched themselves as individuals while understanding the importance of teamwork to be successful.
Using cutting edge cognitive skill development, the selected students made wonderful progress over the last week of Term 2 with improved skills in cooperation, confidence, teamwork, communication and a new found zest for their future both at school and within the community.
As Sports Challenge mentor Evan Willey commented: “Their smiling faces and enthusiasm at the end of the program was infectious. It made us coaches feel really proud that we have had a helping hand in the future of Singapore.”
His sentiments were echoed by the HOD of Student Services Mr Khamil where the excitement generated by Sports Challenge has been seen already in the behaviours of the selected students. Punggol now looks forward to Term 3 with great expectations for these students.
