As the great American Poet Maya Angelou said “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel” is the new mantra for Medina Primary located near Kwinana south of Perth.
Under the leadership of passionate Principal Karen Davey, she wanted to establish a Charter of Values and Behaviours for all staff, students, and families for 2022 and onwards, especially in such challenging times with the Covid-19 pandemic.
After the success of Charters developed and implemented by Dr Garry Tester and his team from Sports Challenge Australia (SCA) and Australian Corporate Challenge (ACC) in many schools and corporate companies over 2020 & 2021. Karen enlisted their services on day 1 of the 2022 term for all Key Stakeholders of the school to do likewise.
The workshop, team building, and wellness day inspired everyone and resulted in a complete collegiate Charter hammered out by days end, which captures the interest and expectations of all to follow moving forward. The new Charter will be displayed throughout the school, on the website, newsletters and every family will receive a credit card size Charter reinforcing the desired behaviours in building a high-performance culture. SCA will regularly and objectively audit the behaviour’s and provide feedback to all stakeholders to allow a high-performance culture to be developed over time.
As one staff member commented “I didn’t think we could develop an aspirational change mechanism, needed in our school culture, but after today’s session I am inspired by our new Charter and hopefully now Medina PS can strive for improved behaviours moving forward, where everyone will now be accountable for their actions”.
