The students and staff at St Joseph’s Primary Institution gave the Sports Challenge staff a warm reception as they kicked off both a Focus and Leadership program at the school. Students in Primary 4 and 5 were involved in each program, which focused upon life skills and leadership development across many areas. The mentors – Sydney Nusbaum, Sophie Rist, Ryan Harding, and Justin Tarpey – each with a unique background and level of experience, were a fantastic blend of personalities for the boys involved in the program. One of the most enjoyed aspects for the students was the one-on-one conversation with the coaches during the day’s breaks and lunch hours. “The coaches are interesting to speak with, and relate to us on a personal level and make us feel like an equal,” commented Roshan, a student involved in the leadership program.
The students were immersed in a range of challenging experiential learning activities throughout both programs, in combination with classroom work focusing upon lifeskills development. Thanks to the dedication and support of Mr Sundaram Ranganathen and Ben Yeo, this program has been a tremendous success.
We look forward to our follow-up visit in May!
