Dawul students hold up a replica World Cup trophy

With the support of the Aussie Farmers Foundation, Dr Garry Tester, CEO of Sports Challenge, and his team visited Dawul Remote School, 110Km S.E of Kununurra in the east Kimberly’s of Western Australia.
Programs Coordinator Emma Trenwith, Mentor Lori Black and Soccer Legend John O’Connell (with a replica of the 2010 world cup in hand!), visited the Dawul School to complete (MIS) data in Pastoral Care and to have some fun with the soccer mad children.
Under the control of principal Phil Hearnden, the beautiful Dawul school is full of life and vitality and loved working with the Sports Challenge Mentors.
The Fremantle Dockers AFL team who support the program provided a pencil case for each student and a colouring in contest ensured the pencils will be well used in the future.

Sports Challenge visits Dawul Remote School

The highlight of the trip was John O’Connell’s soccer program showing the eager children the tricks of the trade of being a soccer player. However, the stand out part of the day was holding the gold replica World cup of soccer. All the children wanted to hold the trophy and have their photo taken. As John explained to the 21children “every one of you have the opportunity to dream of one day holding a trophy like this if you work hard, listen carefully to others and never give up”.

This is the message that drives the Sports Challenge mentors to help children wherever they are to reach their potential in life’s uncertain journey.
