PENRHOS COLLEGE MAINTAINS HIGH SKILLS IN PE

Again in 2021, Penrhos Junior School under the stewardship of PE specialists Samantha Corbett and Joanne Elphick have maintained their number one ranking in PE Skills for schools tested throughout Western Australia.

The Sports Challenge testing team led by Programs Coordinator Josh Chivell completed, over one week, a 10-item battery of Ball Skills, and Fundamental Movement Skills for all Year 1 to Year 6 students.

What was fantastic to see was how well students applied themselves to the testing, their enthusiasm and most importantly their genuine enjoyment of physical activity.

At the end of the testing every student and their families will receive their own individual report, showing their own scores for each of the 10 tests, alongside the mean scores of their fellow students, by age and gender, as well as Australia’ wide mean scores.

Parents will have full explanation notes of all tests and information for themselves to help at home to complement the work of the PE teachers to build the skill and fitness levels of their children.

The PE Department will also receive full electronic reports of all student results by year level, to allow a targeting of any areas of improvement for PE and Sport Programs.

As one year 5 student Sophie explained “I am trying to improve my PB (Personal Best) from last year and I am so happy that I am getting better”. This wonderful attitude is what has made Penrhos so successful.
